Increase the Volume of your Lips

Lips are composed of skin, muscles and mucous membrane. There is a prominent area where the skin and the mucous membrane meet that produces a youthful and exotic appearance when it is well formed.  Many women accentuate this line with a pencil to give more definition to the lip. This effect can be achieved injecting hyaluronic acid (Restylane® or Juvederm®) along the border of the lip or vermilion to accentuate its structure. This procedure in itself produces the illusion of greater lip volume. This strengthens the lips' structure in persons who do not want increased volume or who want to begin a conservative intervention.

In addition to recreating a clearly prominent area, hyaluronic acid (Restylane® or Juvederm®) can be used to make the lips more prominent and provide more volume.  In addition, it is possible to achieve maximum volume of the lips by injecting the product deeply into the muscle of the lips. This last alternative is most commonly requested by women between the ages of 25 y 35, when many women desire to have thick, fleshy lips.

Lastly, the philtrum or sub nasal groove are the vertical lines that extend from the upper lip to the the nose as crests or ridges forming a depression or central valley. Also known as the cupid arch, it projects youth and, in ancient times, it was equated with fertility. Through the years, the anatomic structure of the lip is subject to atrophy and loses definition. However, definition can be recovered by injecting Restylane® or Juvederm® under the skin and restructuring it.

What is the procedure for making lips larger?

Increasing lip size can be performed with an isolated procedure or as a complementary procedure when filling and creating the contour of other parts of your face. It is performed with local anesthesia that is injected into four sites inside the mouth. Because the mouth is a very sensitive area, occasionally an anesthetic cream is used as a supplement. This allows the medical professional to work precisely and methodically on the mouth.

Recovery

Inflammation from the procedure can take about five days to disappear. We recommend the immediate application of cold compresses as well as antiviral medication for persons who have a history of oral ulcers. Lip augmentation can last about six months; therefore, you should consider having this procedure performed twice a year.
