Ulthera is the only FDA approved non-surgical treatment for face and neck lifting achieving precise stretching and improvement of skin lines and wrinkles. Initially approved in 2009 for the lifting of the eyebrows, it evolved in 2012 to its approval for the lifting of the face and neck. In Europe it is also notable for its lifting properties as a technology that achieves greater definition of facial regions such as the mandibular angle and the submental or dewlap area. Subsequently in 2014 the décolletage or chest area received the same certification. Unlike other technologies, Ulthera manages to achieve these effects using micro-focused ultrasound to reach the deepest layers, including the SMAS or the fibro-butterfly layer that collects in the facelift and the platysmal muscle of the neck, without burning the skin or needing needles to achieve its effect. The treatment is based on applying a number of dotted lines on two levels, dividing the face into quadrants. Each quadrant receives a number of lines.
However, what has taken this treatment to another level is its property of visualizing tissues ultrasonographically - its third FDA indication - allowing it to be individualized and creating a plan depending on the thickness of the patient's tissues. Consequently, heat can be applied to the specific depth, achieving a better result and minimizing any associated discomfort. This is what is known as Ulthera SPT: SEE, PLAN, TREAT. It is based on I see, I plan and I treat. The three application depths are 1.5, 3 and 4.5 mm, increasing the heat until reaching 65 degrees Celsius, thus producing a thermal effect that triggers the incitement of production, remodeling and creation of new collagen. In other words, you have to know how to apply it. The latest studies have determined that in the first 6 weeks, 80% of the stretching effect is reached, increasing from this point an additional 60% for a period of 6 months.
